| Abigail & Lewis. Lewis' favorite Sonic selection is anything and everything. |
Hello, and welcome to Abigail’s Amazing Sonic Adventure! My name is Abigail Hess, and it is my privilege to grant you direct access to one of the world’s biggest Sonic devotees- me! For the next few weeks, months, or even years, I will provide updates to this site on how Sonic is serving our great nation, as well as our appetites and social calendars. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead of me, and I hope you’ll be back regularly to track my progress!
First, let’s start with some background info. Born and bred in Oklahoma, I grew up with a Sonic around every corner. I also grew up knowing that Sonic was the superior fast food joint, and I therefore spent my formative years chowing down on Sonic #1’s, tots and ice-cold Diet Cokes. It was a simple (and tasty) upbringing.
As I became older, my fascination continued to grow, and I realized my fascination wasn’t exactly unique. In fact, it seemed every person I met across the entire state liked Sonic more than what you might consider a “normal” amount. Not only did everyone have their favorite Sonic snack, but they also seemed to have reasons to be individually invested in the franchise. By the time I graduated high school I was aware that every Oklahoman was strangely proud of my favorite burger joint. It wasn’t until I went to college in Shawnee that I realized why that was.
If you’re a Sonic guru, you no doubt read “Shawnee” and thought, “Yep, I know what she’s talking about.” But if you’re not, let me fill you in; although this is debated by folks in Stillwater (and I claim no knowledge as to who is actually right), every Shawnee native will tell you that the entire Sonic industry began in their hometown. I swear I hadn’t been in college for more than a day before hearing this story, and it suddenly made me understand exactly why Oklahoma loves Sonic so much. Sonic isn’t just a great restaurant; it is a great restaurant that got it’s beginning in our great state!
Since it’s Midwestern beginnings Sonic has spread it’s wings, and now can be found from sea to shining sea. Of course, some states don’t have quite as many Sonics as Oklahoma, but that doesn’t stop a true fan. When my sister moved to Virginia, she discovered she was woefully far away from a Sonic; it would take her an hour roundtrip to get her Strawberry Limeade fix. But did that stop her? Not once! She and her husband would make an afternoon of it, just to be able to have their Sonic favorites. I can’t think of anything other fast food joint that has more devoted fans than Sonic!
Now that I know my entire state (and country!) shares my love of Sonic, I’ve decided to keep my fellow fans up-to-date on my Sonic adventures. Wherever the road takes me, I will find a Sonic and share its story. I can’t wait for the adventures ahead!
One last thing: Since this whole project is about how much we all love Sonic, it seems only fitting that you tell your Sonic stories too. If you’ve had a great Sonic experience, email me at Abigail@rhess.com.
Thanks for visiting Abigail’s Amazing Sonic Adventure. Check back soon for my first Sonic run; it’s the kind of Sonic that true daredevils go to rev up (or cool down) after a day of defying gravity and tempting fate. Want to know which Sonic feeds the appetites of these adventurers? Keep Reading!
